Online Video Poker
Next to blackjack and baccarat, video poker offers you some of the best odds you’ll likely to see at a casino. There’s still a house edge of course, all casino games have a house edge, it’s just that it’s quite a bit lower than, say, slots and roulette. Some of the earliest slot games were in fact video poker games where you try and build a decent poker hand from cards dealt to you from a pack- in fact in Australia, slots are called pokies.
The pack of cards, rules and payout will vary according to the type of video poker you happen to be playing- whether its Jacks or Better video poker, or Aces and Eights for example.
How to Play Video Poker Online
In video poker, it’s you against the dealer- a bit like when you play blackjack. We have various games including Jacks or Better, Double Bonus Poker, Deuces Wild (where the 2’s are wild) and Aces & Eights Poker. Try the free demo games and then play for real.
You will be dealt a first hand of five cards.
Your aim is to build the best poker hand that you can by holding or throwing cards from your first hand.
The cards you throw away will be replaced with new ones – with a bit of luck, you will have put together a decent poker hand which will be scored against the pay table. The better the hand, the higher the multiple you will win on your bet. -
Jacks or Better
Jacks or Better video poker is probably one of most popular variants- it’s very easy to understand the pay table in this game.
This is a straightforward poker game that pays out from a pair of jacks or better. A pair of queens, kings or aces will also pay of course, and then you are into the standard poker hands- 2 pairs, 3 of a kind a straight, a flush, a full house, 4 of a kind, a straight flush and a royal flush.
You’ll need to select the number of coins to play (tap on the pay table in the mobile version) and then bet how much you would like to bet on the bottom of the game.
You don’t need to worry about wild cards, jokers, or additional bonus payouts- there aren’t any. The maximum jackpot is 4000 coins, which you can win if you get a Royal Flush (10, J, Q, K and Ace of the same suit) playing 5 coins.
As an aside, if you’re looking for something a bit different, you could also try some of our casual games like Diamond Deal, for example, which is a click and pick game.
OK, back to the video poker.

Deuces Wild
In Deuces Wild video poker, all of the 2’s are wild and will stand in for other cards to make up a winning poker hand.
That’s good news, of course, but there is a trade off compared to other variants like Jacks or Better. You need to get at least a 3 of a kind to get a payout in Deuces Wild (whereas Jacks or Better pays out on from a pair of jacks and will also pay out if you get 2 pairs. And the payouts are lower to reflect the fact that these hands are more likely to come up with a bunch of wild cards in the deck. So if you are betting 5 coins a hand, you’ll be paid 15 coins for 3 of a kind in Jacks and Better and 5 coins in Deuces Wild- it’s effectively a “push”- you get your bet back.
A natural royal flush pays out the same- 4000 coins.
It’s up to you which game to play- different people have different favourites. We’d recommend you give all of them a test and see which one you enjoy playing the most. You might also want to try Aces & Eights poker and Double Bonus poker, both of which are also in this section.
