Well, at least that’s what I thought when I first fired up the Twin Spin Deluxe slot from those Swedish gamesters from NetEnt who launched this game around the same time as one of their Irish Slots – Finn and the Swirly Spin.

But it turns out that although this slot looks like a Lada, when you open up the bonnet there’s a gleaming new Mercedes SL engine inside, and we are talking the SL500, not the 350!

Look and Feel

When you first spark the Twin Spin slot into life and start making those reels dance, it looks like a pretty ordinary old-school slot. It’s a brightly designed 5×3 grid of traditional symbols like BARS, cherries, bells and playing card numbers. This game has 243 Ways to Win.

But when you start playing, you’ll start to notice some pretty neat features- this game is like the Reel Rush slot – kind of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The soundtrack chugs along in the background- it kind of reminds me of the Wild Wild West Slot with an Ibiza bass line.

GamePlay

The first thing you need to know about Twin Spin Deluxe is where it gets its name. The Twin refers to the Twin Reel Feature. Every game starts with at least two adjacent reels that are linked together like Siamese twins.

You’ll spot them as they get a dance-club-pulsating highlight (the whole game feels like a night out at Pacha to be fair).

And what’s more, the sticky twins can spin off more siblings, as the Twin Reels can build out to three, four, or even five linked reels. Which can be nice for wins, let me tell you! The number you’ll see is set at random- just wear your lucky pants and go through your Rafa Nadal routine before you hit spin.

In common with many NetEnt slot games, you’ll need to pick your coin value and your bet level (from 1 to 10). A bet level of 10 is a 100-coin bet, so if you set your coin level at £/€/$0.1 or 10c…well, you “do the math” as they say in the movies. That’d be a £/€/$ 10 bet per spin.

Twin Spin has 243 Ways to Win so there is no worrying about pay lines here. Matching symbols anywhere on three or more adjacent reels, starting from reel 1 to reel 3, 4 or 5 triggers a payout. Easy!

Kerching! Diamonds are your best friends here- they pay the most, followed by the red 7’s, the BARS, bells, cherries and then the usual playing card symbols, Ace through to Jack.

Wilds

Hopefully, you should see a good sprinkling of Wild Symbols which will stand in for other symbols to make up wins in the time-honoured fashion.

You will only see wilds on reels 2,3,4 and 5.

Do I even need to mention this? The Twin Spin Deluxe slot is fully powered up for play on mobiles, tablets, laptops and desktops.

It looks fantastic on a smaller screen, we’d go as far as saying that it’s one of the prettiest mobile slots out there- I guess the back-to-basics theme just works well on iPhones and Android devices.

Settings

Click the “Spanner” symbol at the bottom left of the game to change the game settings.

You can select “Quick Spin” (not in all jurisdictions like the UK), enable Spacebar to spin, disable the Intro screen and enable “Show bet in cash”. That last one is worth doing.

Summary

The thing that I love about this game, is that you think you are firing up a standard fruity when you load it up, only to discover that it’s been fitted with a turbo booster.

My favourite bit of the game is when the random Twin Reel Expander feature kicks in. It feels like the game is going through the gears with the pedal to the metal. Love it!
