The wombat says: Sound the klaxon! We’re reviewing a Thunderkick game!
We are beside ourselves here at Wombat Towers, as this creative game studio has made some of our favourite slots including Babushkas and Esqueleto Explosivo.
We are sure the Turning Totems slot won’t disappoint.
‘But hang on Mr Wombat,’ I hear you say. ‘What exactly is a Totem, anyway?’
We like a good totem pole and we’ve got something similar back where I’m from in Oz. But, the most famous totems can be found in North America where they are an important part of the culture of the indigenous people.
Other than looking pretty awesome and scary, Totem poles represent stories and important events or commemorate people. They feature carvings of totems which are the animals or plants that are believed to be the spiritual guides that watch over families, tribes or clans.
But now to the game!
Look and Feel
Turning Totems slot is a “cute” game along the lines of the Frogs ‘n Flies slot. A barren desert is the backdrop to these colourful reels, along with some cacti, indigenous cave drawings, a buffalo skull, and a very cute Native American kid to the left of your reels – who will perform a little rain-dance whenever you win! The cuteness hits the levels of the Viking Quest slot– it’s a real feel-good game.
All these animations are expertly imagined with the trademark crystal clear 3D graphics we associate with Thunderkick. It looks great. And the soundtrack’s not bad either! Pan pipes, xylophone and guitar all come together to make a very relaxing little ditty.

Turning Totems Game Play
Turning Totems is a five-reel slot with three rows and 11 pay-lines, although you can win both ways in the game. Each reel is a whole Totem pole split into three parts which spin independently to reveal a symbol when they stop turning. We’ve never seen reels work like this, and we love it!
Your symbols are made up of five elaborate-looking totems; a yellow chap with the big teeth and poking out tongue, a red eagle totem with big eyebrows, a crazy-looking pink guy, a green fella with a face full of boils, and a whistling blue totem.
The Wild symbol in the slot is the gold/brown totem who’s having a nap while his mates spin like crazy. When he gets woken up by a Thunder Reel (more on that later) he’ll do the usual job of a Wild and substitute for all other symbols on the reels to make winning combos
Thunder Snakes and Thunder Reels
The purple and gold Thunder Snake symbol will appear at random anywhere on the reels, and when it does, it’ll turn that reel into a Thunder Reel that will become sticky. Keep your eyes peeled for the little bird above the reel who will suddenly get all gold and floaty! Plus, if there are any sleeping wilds on this reel, the cute little fellas will roll out of bed and become normal Wilds – and you’ll be given a free respin.
If you land three or more Thunder Reels at the same time, you’ll set off the Free Spins Bonus Game feature.
Bonus Features
Well, it wouldn’t be a Thunderkick slot without some imaginative extras, now would it?
The Free Spins Bonus Game is set off when three or more of the Thunder Reels are active. The cute Native American kid runs up a slope to a new set of totem reels, with multipliers in front of them.
Here the backdrop goes dark, a thunderstorm beckons and you’ll receive five free spins. While the reels get pelted with rain, you’ll get extra goes with your sticky Thunder Reels stuck in place until the end of the Bonus.
Conclusion
The Turning Totems slot is a great game, a slot that sits in the cute category along with the Casper Slot and Foxin’ Wins. The awesome graphics and original creative game-play make it a real head turner! Ha… Sorry. Give it a whirl.
Wombat Score: 5/5
Another awesome game from Thunderkick!
