The Wombat says: Ever played Respin Rhino or Silver Lion from my fellow Aussies at Lightning Box Games? Then you’ll be pleased to hear that the theme and game play in their latest slot is exactly the same.

And if the idea of getting up close and personal with a bunch of hungry wild animals doesn’t float yer boat – then this will be right up your slot street, too. You can visit the big 5 from the comfort of your own sofa! There’s also the Win a Beest slot, by the way, should you like this kind of theme. Just saying.

Kalahari Safari slot comes with max wins of up to 1,728x your bet. So trek through the dusty Kalahari with us Wombat Fans, and see if we can’t pick up some elephant-sized wins…

Look and Feel

Truth be told, Lightning Box Games aren’t known for their awe-inspiring graphics. But this game looks nice enough. The background to your reels is the savannah with its tall grass, pink-hued clouds and a river running behind it. You’ll also spot a few wild animals in the scrub most likely hunting for their next prey. Gulp. Still, I’m not sure they like wombats much… Too prickly.

Soundtrack-wise expect the usual Lightning Box bleeps when you win, plus some rhythmic drum beats and chirps and roars from the game’s inhabitants.

Kalahari Safari Slot Game Play

Kalahari Safari slot comes with 1,024 Ways to Win over 5 reels and 4 rows.  When you think of other games like the Riches of Midgard slot with 9 pay-lines, that’s quite a lot. Your bets start at 0.40 and go up to 100.00 per Safari spin.

The icons on the reels are made up of all the odds and sods you’d find on safari: the proud shaggy lion, a croc, a zebra, a beaded necklace and a tribal drum. As you’d expect, the lion is king of the pay table, and will scoop you 250 coins for 5 in a row.

Meanwhile, 9, 10, J, Q, K & A are the slot’s low value symbols.

The Wild icon is represented by the stampeding elephant, and the Bonus Stampede logo will act as your scatter here. It will also scoop you a cheeky payout of 2x, 10x or 20x your bet if you manage to land 3x, 4x or 5x on the reels. Nice one!

Free Spins and Bonus Features

Elephant Wilds

These helpful icons will land on the middle 3 reels only and substitute for all the other icons in play to help you make up extra winning combinations.

Free Spins

Land 3x or more of the bonus scatters and you’ll be awarded 8 to 20 free spins. You can also re-trigger this bonus feature by landing another 2x scatters on any spin.

Stacked wilds will now hit middle reels 2, 3 and 4, expanding to cover all positions there. This can give you to 64 ways to win just with wilds! And it makes it much easier for you to net those winning combinations.

Conclusion

Kalahari Safari slot is a simple game with some decent game play , but it’s lacking in some of the pzazz we expect from HD slots today. The Free Spins might bring home the bacon – if you manage to re-trigger the round and land a screen full of wilds – but there are few wins to be had in standard play mode.

Our final thoughts? A basic title that could be good for slot novices. But it might be time for Lightning Box Games to up their game a little bit…

Wombat score 3.9/5

This game isn’t available to players from the UK.  If you’re after a safari themed slot, why not have a spin on SG Digital’s Raging Rhino slot instead?
