Gonzita’s Quest

Anything Gonzo can do, his daughter Gonzita can do better! Well, that’s what Red Tiger Gaming reckons, in any case, in the Gonzita’s Quest slot.

It’s great to see a new game inspired by that old classic, Gonzo’s Quest, and Red Tiger have done a great job of building on the theme with this newer game.

Gonzita is a conquistadora who is hot on the heels of the famous slot hero on her quest to uncover the temple’s treasures and by the look of it she goes to the same tailor. She didn’t quite make it onto the Superstars slot with Gonzo, but we can see this new character going places!

Gonzita Facts

Gonzita’s Quest is a 5 reel, 3 row online video slot from Red Tiger, part of the Evolution Gaming Group. This is a medium to high variance game with 20 pay-lines with a maximum jackpot of 2580x your stake. That doesn’t quite match Fiona’s Christmas Fortune, but it’s up there alright.

Features include Waterfall (Avalanche) Wins like ELK Studio’s Dropz slot (called a Chain Reaction in this game), Bonus, Free Drops (Spins), Hold and Spin, Multipliers, Respins, and Scatters. The game is themed on the Aztec temples of America and the ancient civilisation of Mexico. This game launched in September 2022.

Look and Feel

Red Tiger Gaming has done a grand job here. It feels like the original Gonzo’s Quest, but has enough unique features and quirkiness to take you on a whole new adventure.

Gonzita is a real star and larks around to the left of the reels, kissing gold coins when you make a win and generally being an entertaining Señorita. If you scoop a big win, she heads over and collects your cold coins in her hat for you and says “Oooh!”

Those slabs seem to drop in quickly, has that sped up or was I imagining it? They have set a minimum of 3 seconds between each spin.

The sounds of the hot jungle are all around and there are some nice touches with the odd leaf falling over the reels from the canopy above. As soon as you spin the reels, the drums start which keeps the excitement levels up. Vamos!

Game Play

The waterfall mechanic keeps dropping new slabs (just the same as that original Avalanche Feature), so you also have the chance of scoring multiple wins on one spin. And if you drop in three (or more) slab scatter symbols, you will set off the Free Spins.

The temple doors slide open, and Gonzita gets all excited and heads in and sits on a Golden Throne in the middle reel. During the bonus, all stone, gold and diamond slabs will pulverize into pieces and disappear like in the main game, but the slabs with multipliers stick around to help your wins — with the Diamond Slab boosting by 750x.

On the reels, you will see 4 animal masks (bird, alligator, snake and fish) as well as 4 other stone masks. The blue mask is the top paying symbol with 3, 4 or 5 in combination awarding 5, 25 or 125 x your total bet.

Gonzita’s Quest Bonus

To get into the Free Spins, you´ll need 3 or more of the Stone Slabs, the scatters. They will land on all of the reels except the middle one and you can spot them from their multiplier award (1x, 2x, 5x, or 7x) which will be applied during the bonus. Look out for the Gold and Diamond slabs in the Free Spins!

When a reel fills with stake multipliers, Gonzita will add them all up and only Golden Slabs with bigger possible prizes will drop into that reel. If you fill the reel up with even more multipliers, you’ll start to see Diamond slabs. This, as you can imagine, is a good thing!

Summary

Well, we loved the original, and this follow-up is also good. As good? Not quite, but Red Tiger Gaming have stayed true to the theme and the underlying design that made the first game such a smash hit (unlike the other sequel Gonzo’s Gold) – this is an entertaining game with some nifty features, like the multiples on the scatters.
