What’s The Deal?
G’day! The Golden Hook Game from Crazy Tooth Studio and Games Global (formerly Microgaming) is an angling-themed game that will hopefully have you reeling in the wins, sharpish!
This is another great collaboration like the 11 Enchanting Relics slot from Games Global and their partner studios.
And with low to medium variance wins, plus a top prize of 3,082x your (tuna) stake there’s a lot to like about this game.
A quick heads up though, Wombat Fans, it’s not technically a slot. More like a casual game of chance and sheer nerve where you fish for wins! If you’ve played The Incredible Balloon Machine also by Crazy Tooth Studio then you’ll know what we mean…
Graphics & Theme

Freshwater lake fishing is the setting for this game and you will place your bets from a wooden boat with a large rod hanging off it. Plus the odd island is scattered in the background. Simple graphics overall and not much in the way of a soundtrack.
Still, this is no HD slot, so it’s OK to lower your expectations.
Golden Hook Game Play
Wombat Fans, would you believe there are no reels, no rows, and no pay-lines in Golden Hook? Although the volatility is in the low-medium category, you can place your bets from 0.20 to 40.00 per hook in your favourite currency.
So how does this game work exactly? Well, the longer you press hold the rod, the bigger the win becomes! But here’s the rub – grab onto the line for too long and it will break, leaving you with nothing.
Above the red ‘play’ sign you’ll see a coloured meter – now this fella is very important. Click and hold the play down button until the needle moves through the red and your rod will attempt to catch a fish.
If you fail, you’ll be in the blue section of the meter, but if you land in the green section, this means you’ve caught a bite to eat!
And as we mentioned, the longer you hold down the button, the bigger your payout – although if you hold it too long you could end up with nothing but an old boot…
We told you it was a game of nerves.
Golden Hook Bonus Features
Multiplier Feature
Randomly when you’ve managed to hook a fish, a load of multiplier values from x2 and x10 will pop up on the lake. One of these will be picked and added to your payout. This helps to keep the base game a bit more lucrative.
Golden Bonus Fish
This big fella can catch a bite of your rod at any time – and when he does, the action will move to a new screen where you’ll be underwater with the fish and crabs.
The marine life comes with either multiplier or instant cash values, and your rod will now automatically reel in as many of these as it can before the bonus runs out. Catch a x2 crab multiplier and it will be applied to all of your winnings.
Conclusion
We weren’t sure what to make of Golden Hook at first, but after a few cast-offs, this Wombat has decided it’s an entertaining alternative to slots.
So, if you feel like a change – pick up a rod and get going.
Wombat score: 4/5

How volatile is Golden Hook?
We would rank the volatility at medium, so you can look forward to a decent catch if you are lucky with the odd tuna fish, too.
