The Big Beast

When I first heard that Play ‘n Go were releasing a slot called Beasts of Fire, I must admit that I assumed that it would be a Heavy Metal game as those Swedish designers love to head bang.

But it turns out that this game is all about buffalo. Hot buffalo. This game is a scorcher like the Gods of Rock slot from Thunderkick.

We are in the Great Plains of North America and the beasts in the game have been charged with some serious energy. Apparently, a whopping big meteor smashed into the plains generations ago and hit our buffalo friends which infused them with fire.

They’d be handy mates to have along to a Barbie I reckon, although they look even angrier than those fellas in the Evil Goblins slot from NoLimit City. Someone got out of bed on the wrong side this morning.

Look and Feel

When we say Buffalo, we mean American Buffalo (Bison) rather than Water Buffalo. Although these beasts look like they could do with a hose down. They’re Smokin’.

It’s the usual high quality graphics that you would expect from Play ‘n Go, with rousing music that made me want to stampede across the plains and score some wins. Let’s check it out, shall we?

Beasts of Fire Symbols

The reels are populated with the usual low payers from the card deck: A, K, Q, J and 10 royals. The higher value symbols are the racoons, eagles, cougars, bears and buffalos. The buffalo is the top payer giving you 0.4, 1.2, 2.5 or 6 x your total stake for 2, 3, 4 or 5 in combination.

The sunset is Wild and will swap out for all symbols except for the gold coin scatter and meteor. It only shows up on the middle three reels (2, 3 and 4). A key point to note is that all animal and royal symbols can appear stacked.

Game Play

Beasts of Fire play out over 5 reels with a 3 x 4 x 4 x 4 x 3 configuration giving you 576 Ways to Win. You will land a win if 3 or more matching symbols show on adjacent reels starting from reel 1. Except for the top paying Buffalo (Bison) where only 2 are required.

Beasts of Fire Bonus

There are a trio of bonus features to stampede after in this game. Let’s take a look:

You might see buffalo symbols landing at random in the base game and the meteor symbol will extend the reel height and gift you re-spins. You can boost your Ways to Win all the way to 12,348, a feature that can also trigger in the free spins bonus.

Charging Buffaloes
Charging Buffaloes can set off in the base game. You’ll see more buffalos about which is great for wins as they are the top paying symbols.

Re-Spins
Re-Spins set off when a meteor lands. The reel height will increase by 1 which means better odds of setting off those Charging Buffaloes.

On a re-spin, if you land more meteors, you will get another re-spin and the reel height increases by 1 again (this can happen up to three times). When you hit the max reel height, you won’t see any more meteors.

Once you are on max reel height, you will have a total of 12,348 Ways to Win (6 x 7 x 7 x 7 x 6 configuration). The Ways to Win build as follows:

Burnin’ Power Free Spins

Land 3 gold coin scatters on reels 2, 3 and 4 and you will unlock the Burnin’ Power Free Spins feature. This starts you off with ten free spins.

Any Buffalos that land will morph into Fire Beast symbols. The meteor symbol once again sets off a Re-Spin. On top of all that, the reel height increases by 1 to 3 times.

And you can retrigger the bonus: you just need to land 3 more scatters for 10 more free spins. The new free spins will start off on a the standard reel configuration once your initial spins have played out.

Summary

The Beasts of Fire slot is a slick looking slot. We’ve played quite a few Buffalo themed games and this is one of the better ones.

The reel expansions are a neat trick to vary your Ways to Win and that keeps things interesting. And the 25,000 x your bet max win will prove a big draw for most players. That’s over double what you’ll find on 11 Enchanting Relics, and that’s no wall flower.
