The Wombat says: we’re off to Ancient Greece again to unleash the power of the gods in this almighty game from Play’n GO, the Rise of Olympus slot!
They do some good table games as well, Play’n GO, such as European Roulette Pro, but we´d have to say that their real forte is slots, with all-time classics such as the Book of Dead slot.
Slot Stats
Rise of Olympus is an attractive-looking Ancient Greek slot game from Play’n GO with five reels and five rows. To trigger a win you will need to line up at least three matching symbols in a vertical or horizontal line. Easy!
This is a highly volatile slot with a big max jackpot of 5000x your bet. The many features include Cluster Pays, Free Spins, Multiplier, Random Wilds, Re-spins and Wilds. Rise of Olympus was launched to great fanfare in August 2018.
If you have ever played Moon Princess, (one of our favourite Play’n GO slots), you will find this release very similar in terms of game mechanics. Instead of manga girls in fancy dress, you will spin omnipotent gods and in tiny shorts.
So, let’s join the Greek gods in a quest for riches and prosperity – Wombat Fans, it’s time to head to Olympus!
Look and Feel
Set on Mount Olympus, the home of the Gods, the reels balance on the ruins of some ancient Greek pillars.
As you spin the reels, you will visit three different kingdoms: Heaven, the kingdom of the mighty Zeus, Hell, which is where Hades hangs out and the ocean, ruled by Poseidon (I thought he´d be more into the Ocean´s Treasure slot, but what do I know).
The backdrop changes for each god that is in play. Hades lives in a glowing red hell-like underworld, while Zeus is up there in the sky with little fluffy clouds. The graphics are as sharp as Poseidon’s trident, and top-notch.
And before you say, “Gosh, they all look like Greek Gods”, that’s because they are. It’s six packs all around. Their gym memebership is fully paid up.

Rise of Olympus Slot Game Play
The Rise of Olympus slot comes on a 5×5 grid slot and can be played from 0.20 coins per spin up to a maximum of 100.00 coins per spin in your currency. Make winning combinations by matching three or more symbols in a row horizontally or vertically.
This game also uses the ever-popular cascading (or avalanche drop) reel mechanic. This means that winning combos will disappear, making it possible to pick up multiple wins from one single go as new symbols drop into the spaces.
Your spins and wins are overseen by the muscle-bound Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. And one of these pumped-up shirtless gods will always be seen standing on the right side of the reels. What is this, Love Island?
Hades, the Greek god of the underworld is depicted wearing a sinister cloak while Poseidon (and his luscious locks), is the god of the sea and is usually to be found brandishing a golden trident.
Finally, Zeus is the God of Gods and is represented as a wise old bloke. That said he’s also got a cracking set of biceps – so he must do a lot of pull-ups up there on Mount Olympus. He must have a good set of weights in the cloud because that’s no Dad Bod on Zeus.
Your symbols on the reels include; lightning bolts, tridents, helmets and harps as well as three high-value symbols represented by the Greek gods, yes, you guessed it; Hades, Poseidon and Zeus. The most valuable symbol in Rise of Olympus is the Wild icon which pays out 50x your bet if you manage to land five on a pay-line.
The Pegasus medallion is that Wild icon in the game and will do the usual job of substituting for all symbols on the reels to give you extra winning combos.
There are no scatter symbols here – but don’t panic, there is still a cracking Free Spins round. See details below.
Free Spins and Bonuses
Hand of God Feature
Who said the Greek Gods were a vengeful bunch? They seem like nice blokes to this wombat because on every non-win spin they will give you the chance to get your paws one of the following features:
Hades: He’s a good fella that Hades, and will transfer one whole set of symbols into another one to help you make more winning combos.
Poseidon: The God of the Sea will add extra wild symbols to your reels. Cheers! We like your haircut, too.
Zeus: Uber God Zeus will grab a couple of white-hot fireballs (as you do) and destroy two lots of symbols from the grid. Freeing up the grid for you…
Once the feature ends, a new god replaces the old one on the screen.
Wrath of Olympus Feature
The Wrath of Olympus bonus is activated when you fill the on-screen meter on the left of the grid.
So, how do you manage that, then? Well, land three or more combos of god symbols (horn helmet for Hades, trident for Poseidon and lightning bolt for Zeus) and you’ll set it off:
– five icons fill up three sections
– four icons fill up two sections
– three icons fill up one section
Now, all three of the powerful Gods will unleash their powers one after the other to help you defeat the grid.
But there’s more; each section awards a multiplier when it is filled up with 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x multipliers up for grabs.
Rise of Olympus Free Spins
Last, but not least, Wombat Fans, is the Rise of Olympus slot Free Spins bonus. Set it off by completely clearing the grid during the base game, and once that happens, you will be offered one of three Free Spins options:
Hades: four Free Spins with the Hades Hand of God feature active on every non-win spin. Fill up the meter during this round, and you’ll scoop four extra spins. Nice!
Poseidon: This watery option will net you five Free Spins plus the Poseidon Hand of God feature on every non-winning spin. Again, you can win up to three more spins if you fill the meter.
Zeus: Bag eight Free Spins plus the Zeus Hand of God feature and some randomly triggered bonuses to boot. Two more spins can be won by filling the meter during play.
In this mode, the multipliers go all the way up to 20x. Decent!
Conclusion
Travel to the home of the Greek gods and prepare yourself for an epic adventure, Wombat Fans!
OK, a lot is going on in the Rise of Olympus slot which could be confusing (especially for slot novices) – but, more features mean more entertainment – so we’re not complaining!
And speaking of which, here at Wombat Towers, we reckon these gods are a pretty generous bunch. If you honour them with your play for long enough, you will be rewarded for your trouble – mainly with the possibility of a 20x Multiplier in the Free Spins round.
We like this medium variance slot a lot – it’s entertaining in the base game, and the bonuses hit pretty regularly helping to top up that balance. Hats off to Play’n GO…
If you enjoyed this game why not have a spin on Play’n GO’s Rise of Olympus 100 slot, the successor to the original Rise of Olympus. This featured-packed successor was released in 2022 and has the potential to win up to 100 Free Spins!
Wombat Score: 4.5/5
This game hits the heights of those clouds of Zeus – it’s a cracker.
